How we handle safety.
Machi has local notes, messages, meetups, homes, secondhand and jobs. This page explains what we do to reduce risk, and where it's worth checking things yourself. For step-by-step checklists, see the safety center.
What we do
Review and action
We handle reports based on evidence and our community rules: we remove content and, in serious cases, restrict accounts.
Verification isn't a guarantee
It confirms identity and details. It doesn't mean Machi vouches for a service, a home or a job.
Sources you can see
Jobs are labeled as official listings or community posts; places link to official pages with a last-checked date; Machi AI marks its answers “From Machi Guide”.
No money, no résumés
Machi never collects money for events, and official listings send you to the employer's own site, so Machi never collects your résumé.
Meetups aren't dates
Meetups are for finding people to eat, play sports, study or swap languages with. Machi is not a dating app.
Before you meet or pay
First meetings
Meet somewhere public and busy, and tell someone you trust when and where.
Homes and secondhand
Don't send large payments before you've seen the room or the item.
Jobs
Never pay a so-called hiring deposit or training fee. The employer's original Japanese text is what counts.
Money talk in messages
If someone rushes you to pay, asks for photos of your ID or wants to move off the platform, stop and report it.
What we can't do
We can't guarantee every deal
We review and act on reports, but we can't guarantee that every home, job, service or meeting is safe. For anything important, double-check yourself.
We're not an emergency service
If you're in danger or a crime is happening, call 110 (police) or 119 (ambulance and fire) first, then report in the app once you're safe.
